Phylloxera Project

The students of 5th Gymnasium of Chania participated in a short-term project about Phylloxera and made presentations on this topic. The whole project was realized in 2 parts. Firstly, the students attended a lecture which was given by Mr Nikolaos Papadantonakis, agronomist from the Directorate of Agricultural Economics and Animal Husbandry of the Region of Crete. Mr. Papadantonakis talked about the insect of phylloxera in detail and gave useful insights into the subject. He described the ways in which the insect spread and referred to the damage it caused to European vineyards in the 19th and 20th centuries and especially in Greece.

Following the lecture, the students worked in groups and carried out some interesting research on the subject of phylloxera based on certain guidelines.
