5th Gymnasium of Chania: A unique wine-making experience

Writer's picture: adminadmin

The students of the 5th Gymnasium of Chania learned how wine is made step by step through experiential activities. They visited a vineyard in the region of Kissamos and hand harvested ‘Romeiko’ vines. First, the students were taught how to remove the grapes from the vines with garden scissors and after the grapes were destemmed, they stomped them barefoot. Finally, the students stored the fresh grape juice so as to learn about the next stage of the process. Throughout the fermentation they will find out how the wine is progressing all the way through fermentation and into the barrel.
