The students of the 5th Gymnasium of Chania attended a seminar given by Mr Nikolaos Papadantonakis, an agronomist currently working at the Directorate of Agricultural Economics and Animal Husbandry of the Region of Crete. Mr Papadantonakis gave a very interesting lecture on Phylloxera in order to provide the students with a useful insight into this particular subject. At the beginning of his presentation, he talked about the vitis vinifera in general, its history, cultivation, diseases and pests. Next, he focused on the insect of phylloxera, described how it spreads and destroys a vineyard, explained where it came from, and how it is possible to prevent phylloxera. It was a very thorough presentation.
